The Role
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Controller to join our dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity to take a hands-on role in managing and overseeing our financial operations as we grow. This is a new role, reporting directly to Alex Tiessen, Principal.  The company has relied on contracted bookkeeping and internal management to this point, but continued and anticipated growth means that this role will be an opportunity for someone with a passion for ensuring financial reporting is insightful and based on the most efficient tools and processes.

Key Responsibilities include: 
  • Accurate and timely general accounting and financial reporting including accounts payable, receivable, bank reconciliations, balance sheet review and month end closing.
  • Payroll administration including benefits and vacation tracking.
  • Prepare monthly financial reporting and analysis including meeting with senior managers to review financial performance.
  • Manage and report on cash flow to meet operational requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with filing obligations including HST and payroll remittances.
  • Refine and create policy and processes to ensure appropriate internal controls.
  • Reporting to internal and external stakeholders including financial institutions as needed.
     
The ideal candidate for this position will possess the following skills and experience:
  • University or college degree in business or accounting
  • CPA designation or in progress preferred or equivalent professional experience
  • 5+ years in a comparable role in a high growth business environment
  • Organized and creative problem-solver with an ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Collaborative interpersonal skills with strong communications skills
  • Tech savvy with advanced Excel skills and comfort with QBO and other cloud computing tools.

The anticipated salary band for this position is $90,000 to $110,000 Cdn. per annum, with flexibility based on experience. Preferred locations are Ottawa, Toronto, or Vancouver however we will consider applicants based in other Canadian locations. We are aiming to have this position start as soon as possible.
